УYou goddamn well did break your contract!Ф

Carla looked up at Eddi, her eyes wide. УOh boyЧyou mean weТre
not even gonna get paid?Ф

Eddi turned to see how Dale was taking the news. He was nowhere
to be seen.

УCarla, you think your wagon will hold your equipment and mine,
too?Ф

УThatТs what I meant.Ф

УOh. Well, I wanted to say good-bye. IТll miss you.Ф Which, Eddi
realized with a start, was more true than sheТd thought.

Dale smiled at his joint. УMaybe IТll quit gigging. Friend of mine has
a farm out past Shakopee, says I can stay there. HeТs got goats,
and some beehivesЧpretty fuckinТ weird.Ф He looked at her, and
his voice lost some of its dreaminess. УYou know, youТre really
good. I donТt much like that stuff, you know, but youТre good.Ф

Eddi found she couldnТt answer that. She hugged him instead,
