"Clock" - читать интересную книгу автора (Burroughs Edgar Rice - Barsoom 01-11 - Barsoom Series.html)Zode Minder(It doesn't work in Mozilla, gonna try to fix that) Zode: Xat: TalWe all know that the Barsoomian day is divided into 10 time units known as "Zodes". These zodes are are each 50 "Xats" in length with the xat further subdivided into 200 "Tals". While our day is 24 hours the Barsoomian day is just a tad [ not a Martian term, tee-hee ] over 24 hours 37 minutes. We can conceptually break up our own day using the same system John Carter uses. This makes our tal .864 seconds long. Our xat will be 172.8 seconds or 2.88 minutes and our zode 8640 seconds or 2.36 hours. The indication from the Carter biographies is that the Martians use this 10 zode system like we use the 24 hour clock, and do not use two 5-zode periods. Just as our 24 hour day actually begins at 24:00:00 the Barsoomian 10 zode day would logically start at 10:00:00, which occurs at what we would consider 06:00:00 or 6:00am. The first zode therefore begains at 8:24. Carter says, at the end of chapter 16 of "GODS" that the first zode begins at about 8:40. He must be taking into account the offset of 6 of our hours plus the longer Martian day to determine that 8:40 by our time system as applied to the Martian day begins the first zode. However, that becomes 8:24 our time as applied to our day. Whew! I hope you understand that. I am not sure that I do, and I wrote it. http://erbatlas.virtualave.net/index.shtml Here is a table you can use to verify that your DIGITAL ZODE MINDER is operating properly:
