"Diane Duane - Young Wizards 06 - A Wizard Alonel" - читать интересную книгу автора (Duane Diane)After school Kit went straight to Tom and CarlтАЩs, the discreet way, to tell him what heтАЩd found. тАЬPhysically, heтАЩs there all rightтАж mostly,тАЭ Kit said, sitting at the table with Tom again. тАЬOr so Ponch says. IтАЩm still working on what he meant by that conditional description he gave me. But DarrylтАЩs problemтАж Why didnтАЩt anything about it turn up in the manual before?тАЭ тАЬNeed-to-know restrictions, possibly,тАЭ Tom said. тАЬAnd often enough the manualтАЩll let you find out something for yourself, rather than just tell you about it. That approach can keep you from prejudging a situation.тАЬ He paged through his own manual to DarrylтАЩs entry. тАЭCertainly it confirms that he has an individualized type of autistic disorder. The manual says itтАЩs a fairly recent development. He hasnтАЩt been autistic from a very young age: It seems to have come on him suddenly, shortly after he turned eight.тАЬ тАЬSo the Ordeal itself didnтАЩt have anything to do with it?тАЭ тАЬI donтАЩt know that for sure. It wouldnтАЩt seem to be connectedтАж but we could be wrong there. At any rate, because the manual doesnтАЩt say anything further, it suggests that the Powers That Be donтАЩt think we need any more detail on that particular facet of the situation. Or that what you discover during investigation may be more valuable than what They already know.тАЭ Duane, Diane - Young Wizards 06 - A Wizard Alone тАЬIt doesnтАЩt seem fair somehow,тАЭ Kit said after a moment, trying to find words for what was making him so uncomfortable. тАЬYouтАЩd think he has enough problems. WhyтАЩs he been stuck in the middle of an Ordeal, on top of everything else?тАЭ Tom shook his head. тАЬIf heтАЩs been offered wizardry, that means that thereтАЩs some problem to which be is the solution. But he canтАЩt merely have been offered wizardry; he also has to have been able to agree to the offer. He found the WizardтАЩs Oath, in some form or another, and he accepted it. Now we have to find out how we can assistтАжwithout removing the basic challenge.тАЭ Kit nodded. тАЬIt makes you wonder, though,тАЭ he said. тАЬIf heтАЩs the answer, whatтАЩs the question?тАЭ тАЬI think I know what you mean,тАЭ Tom said. тАЬHe does seem an unlikely candidate. But even in what we laughably refer to as тАШnormalтАЩ life, all too often the unlikely people turn out to be the ones who have the answers; the objects you would have thrown away are the ones you find you canтАЩt do without. тАШThe stone rejected by the builder becomes the cornerstone.тАЩтАЭ Tom got a wry look then. тАЬIt happens too often to be accidental. Is the universe trying to tell us something important about the way it worksтАФthat sometimes even what we call fate has an element of unpredictability?тАЭ Kit nodded. тАЬOr maybe the OneтАЩs just saying, тАШDonтАЩt be so sure you know it all.тАЩтАЭ Tom stretched and leaned back in his chair. тАЬCould be. There are people in our world whoтАЩve made a tremendous difference but who would have died in another time. In this time, people every day are |
