"David Eddings - The Dreamers 01 - The Elder gods" - читать интересную книгу автора (Eddings David)тАШMaybe a weekтАЩs worth - if we ration it.тАЩ тАШHow about food?тАЩ тАШItтАЩs a little skimpy, CapтАЩn,тАЩ Ox reported. тАШThe Fat ManтАЩs been complaining about that for a couple of days now. The Fat ManтАЩs not the best cook in the world, but he does know how to pad up the beans and salt pork with seaweed if things get tight. IтАЩd say that waterтАЩs our main problem.тАЩ тАШMaybe itтАЩll rain,тАЩ Ham-Hand said hopefully. тАШтАЬMaybeтАЭ donтАЩt drink too good,тАЩ Ox said in a gloomy voice. тАШWeтАЩd better find some land, and weтАЩd better find it fast. Otherwise ...тАЩ He left it up in the air, but the others got his drift. 2 The crew of the Seagull was on short rations for the next few days, but then on a steel-grey morning before the sun rose, Kaldo Tree-Top, the tallest man aboard, shouted тАШLand ho!тАЩ from the top-mast. A shorter man might have missed the low-lying smudge on the eastern horizon, but Tree-Top, well-nigh seven feet tall, saw it quite clearly. тАШAre you sure?тАЩ Ham-Hand shouted up to the gangly lookout. тАШReal sure.тАЩ Tree-Top called back. тАШTwo points off the port bow, and тАШGo wake Ox,тАЩ Ham-Hand told Rabbit, the small, wiry crewman standing nearby. тАШHe donтАЩt like to get woke up this early,тАЩ Rabbit replied. тАШIt makes him real grouchy.тАЩ тАШJust kick his foot and then run,тАЩ Ham-Hand suggested. тАШHeтАЩll never catch you. ThatтАЩs how you got your name isnтАЩt it?тАЩ тАШI can outrun my own shadow,тАЩ Rabbit boasted, тАШbut if I happen to trip and fall, old OxтАЩll tromp on me for the rest of the day.тАЩ тАШShinny up the mast,тАЩ Ham-Hand advised. тАШOx donтАЩt climb none too good. I need to let him know that weтАЩre about to make a landfall.тАЩ тАШIтАЩd really druther not, Ham-Hand.тАЩ Ham-Hand clenched his huge fist and held it in front of RabbitтАЩs nose. тАШIтАЩd do a quick turn-about on my druthers, if I was you, Rabbit,тАЩ he said ominously. тАШNow quit complaining and do as youтАЩre told.тАЩ тАШDonтАЩt get excited,тАЩ Rabbit said, backing away. тАШIтАЩm going.тАЩ Ox, however, surprised Rabbit with a sudden burst of enthusiasm. Of course, Ox required a great deal of food and drink because of his size, so an unexpected landfall brightened his entire day. The Seagull was at least as fast as her namesake, and by the time the sun came up, the coast ahead was clearly visible. тАШGo tell the CapтАЩn that weтАЩve made a landfall, Rabbit,тАЩ Ox commanded. тАШWhy me?тАЩ Rabbit whined. тАШBecause I said so. DonтАЩt stand around and argue with me, Rabbit. Just go.тАЩ |
