Bright eyes catching the moonlight in green flashes, with lolling tongues and rows of white teeth, the wolves
scampered about like puppies. Some darted close to snap at me, wagging their tails at the sport of it. Weaponless, I
scrabbled in the snow and found a piece of fist-sized rock. Better than nothing.
Then a big black fellow, obviously the pack leader, lifted his head to the wild gray sky and howled. Had the hair
