Between a rock and a hard place . . .


Finally, Dark appeared to have come to a decision. He turned aside from the
route they had been taking, and followed the curve of the slope around the
bottom of a steep hill. Suddenly, the unnerving glow of the Curtain Walls
was straight ahead. ScallтАЩs mind quailed from the sight, refusing to believe
they could be heading directly for that glowing barrier. What would happen
to someone who rode right into such sheets of frightful energy? Would he
survive the experience?
Scall very much doubted it. Dark, however, appeared to have other ideas.
With his goal clearly in sight, he picked up the pace, dragging a reluctant
captive, on his equally reluctant horse, behind.
