"Replica15 - Transformation - Kaye, Marilyn" - читать интересную книгу автора (Kaye Marilyn) "Well, what do you think, Amy?" Carrie wanted to know. "Are Billy and Brianna going to be the next big thing?"
Amy tried to remember what she'd heard about the show. Tasha was hooked on it, and she talked about it all the time. Tentatively Amy said, "I thought Brianna and Tucker were a couple." Layne was aghast. "Amy, that's ancient history. Where have you been?" Amy was relieved that Eric chose that moment to circle around them and distract the girls from probing Amy's lack of knowledge too deeply. Eric was looking pleased with himself. "Guess what?" he asked the group in general. "What?" they all chorused automatically. Eric dangled a little plastic bag filled with purple balls in the air. "Grape Cocodoodles!" Layne let out a squeal. "Ooh, that's new! Where did you get them?" "At the pharmacy," Eric said. Layne and Carrie took off. "Want one?" Eric asked Amy. Without waiting for an answer, he handed her a grape Cocodoodle and skated away. Amy was still sucking on her lemon Cocodoodle. She couldn't spit it out, but the new grape Cocodoodle was already making her hand feel sticky. Quickly she made her way to a trash can, where she tossed the lemon ball and popped the grape one into her mouth. She really should checkout Cherry Lane, she thought. And as she made the decision, she noticed that some kids in the parking lot were wearing T-shirts that referred to the show or its characters. And as she continued skating, she noticed something even more interesting. A couple of girls she recognized as cheerleaders were talking to a girl named Tiffany Hull from Amy's phys ed class. Tiffany was a brain who was president of the debate dub, and she didn't wear a bra yet, which basically put her in the category of nerd, at least in a cheerleader's mind. "Personally, I think Brianna and Tuck are going to get back together," Amy overheard Tiffany telling the cheerleaders. "I guess that's a possibility," one of the cheerleaders admitted. "But Brianna could do so much better. That Tucker is such a phony." "But he's very cute," Tiffany reminded her. Both the cheerleaders nodded fervently. Amy watched and listened in amazement. That was something different. Not the Brianna and Tucker business Ч the fact that cheerleaders and nerds could find something to talk about. It was nice, she thought. Now she was even more committed to giving Cherry Lane a try. On the way home, she asked Eric about the show. "Do you ever watch Cherry Lane?" "I've seen it a couple of times," he admitted. "When I don't have basketball practice." "Do you like it?" He shrugged. "It's okay. It kind of grows on you, and you get into it. Want a grape Cocodoodle?" Her hand still bore purple streaks from the last one he'd given her, but she took it anyway. "I wonder when Dr. Noble is going to get around to banning these." Their principal had a low tolerance for fads, and in the past she'd banned bubble gum and T-shirts with slogans from The Simpsons. Eric considered the possibility. "Kids would just spit them out when she was around and put them back in their mouths when she wasn't looking. Just like they did with bubble gum." "But it wouldn't be that easy," Amy pointed out. "These Cocodoodles color your tongue. You'd be carrying around the evidence that you'd just been eating one." "I guess you'd have to keep your mouth shut," Eric said. |
