gentlemenтАФand my otherwiseтАФ what is the most pressing problem of our
day?тАЭ

тАЬGet on with it, Mr. Franklin!тАЭ Shandy Tupman piped, in his reedy voice,
shaking his fist in mock threat. тАЬHanтАЩt no schoolroom, this!тАЭ

Franklin arched his brows. тАЬAnd how would you know what the inside of a

sapphire eyes. Her exclamation was punctuated by assenting jeers.

тАЬMy dear,тАЭ Franklin said, peering down his nose at her. тАЬThereтАЩs no cure for
that sort of man but a sensible wife.тАЭ

тАЬSome cures take a lifetime to work, it seems,тАЭ she said back sweetly,
тАЬespecially when the patient is so deeply infected.тАЭ

Franklin smiled. тАЬWell, it may be. But one good husband is worth two good
wives.тАЭ

тАЬAnd how do you reckon that, husband?тАЭ she said.

тАЬWhy, my dear Lenka, the scarcer something is, the greater its value.тАЭ
