"Klement, Louise - Vehicular Homicide" - читать интересную книгу автора (Klement Louise)A knock on the door interrupted his thoughts. He opened the door, surprised to see the police officers standing there. He had only called 9-1-1 a few minutes earlier. They had a fast response time.
"Jake Dunson?" The taller officer asked. "Yeah? You guys sure came here quick." The officer looked puzzled. "My truck." Jake pointed to the empty spot where he usually parked. "Stolen." The officer swallowed, his adam's apple bobbed nervously. "Sir, we're here to tell you your wife has been involved in an accident." "Accident?" Jake took a step back. "Yes sir." "Is she okay? She's okay right?" "I'm sorry sir. She was dead by the time paramedics arrived. We need you to come in and identify her." Jake laughed. "You must be mistaken. She's at work." Jake walked to the phone, and dialed Mana's work number. "Hi Leslie, is Mana there?" "No. She left work early. She wanted to surprise you with the news." "What news?" Jake held back the tears. It had to be a mistake. "I'll let her tell you. She's not there yet? She left before three this morning." Jake hung up the phone and turned to the officers. "I don't understand." He let the tears flow freely, as he joined the police officers in the squad car. "Yes sir. It seems her car broke down on the highway, and she had to walk home when someone hit her with a truck. There was a witness, a homeless man collecting cans at the side of the road." "Oh my God." Jake buried his face in his hands. "She did speak to the witness before she died." "What did she say?" "She told him to tell you about the baby. I guess she found out she was pregnant." THE END Louise Klement currently lives in Colorado where she's working on her writing.
