GiulaтАЩs eyes bugged out.

I grabbed GiulaтАЩs arm. тАЬDid you want to practice, or not?тАЭ I asked. Giula
shot me a venomous glare, but let me drag her off. тАЬItтАЩs not like sheтАЩs going
anywhere,тАЭ I said once the door was closed. тАЬYou can interrogate her later.тАЭ

Giula was cheerful again by the time weтАЩd reached the practice hall. тАЬSo
thatтАЩs your new roommate! Not quite so bad as you made it sound at
lunch, is it?тАЭ

тАЬI still say there are enough empty rooms that I shouldnтАЩt have to have a
roommate if I donтАЩt want one,тАЭ I said. Giula shrugged unsympathetically.
In the practice room, Giula and I set our music on the stand. We would
play a duet in the autumn recital the following week; I was a better
violinist than Giula, but we shared a teacher, Domenico, and he had
instructed us to play together. She would take the easier part.

тАЬDid she tell you why she came here from Cuore?тАЭ Giula asked, still
incredulous.

тАЬShe was in Cuore preparing for ordination,тАЭ I said.

тАЬShe was going to be a priestess? But why would she ever come back here?тАЭ

тАЬYou can ask her later, canтАЩt you?тАЭ I flipped open the music to the duet.
тАЬAre we going to practice or not?тАЭ

Giula tightened her bow and started tuning her violin, still talking. тАЬAnd
why would she be starting at this time of year? Auditions were in the
spring. Though she couldnтАЩt have auditioned anywayтАФsheтАЩs our age, or
maybe even older. She has to be a paying student. But why would you pay
to come here?тАЭ

I rolled my eyes and tucked my violin under my chin.

тАЬMaybe her family lives near here,тАЭ Giula said.
