Judd and Vicki dropped Lionel off at the police station and swung byNew HopeVillageChurch. Judd
found Loretta, BruceтАЩs assistant, red-eyed and sniffling. She was nearly seventy and sitting in the outer
office in front of a silent television.

Judd knelt by LorettaтАЩs chair.

Judd was glad he didnтАЩt have to dance around the truth. He had seen Bruce under the white sheet. The
sight of his face had taken his breath away, it was true. But when he thought about BruceтАЩs face, Judd
smiled.

тАЬPeaceful. All those sirens and people crying and runningeverywhere, and there was BruceтАФjust like he
was when he was alive. Calm.тАЭ
