УWhat is it?Ф
УWeТve found some sabotage.Ф
MorleyТs eyes narrowed. This was more than he expected.
УWhere?Ф
УAmong the finished planes. Some of the wing struts were weakened. And there
were small spare metal parts scattered through the motors. Once the motors
started, the pieces of metal would tear heck out of them.Ф
УWho discovered this?Ф
УOne of the inspectors. He saw a slash on a wing, and that made him suspicious.Ф

It was all he needed.
УHave you told Mr. Wyatt?Ф
УNot yet. I thought you ought to be the first one to know.Ф
УAll right, weТll tell him together.Ф

YATT and Bracken were talking over a new plane when Morley and the plant
superintendent burst in upon them. They seemed startled when they heard the
news.
УIt sounds incredible!Ф Bracken cried.
Wyatt shook his head.
УI donТt believe it. Those finished planes were well-guarded.Ф
УWhat do you say, Armstrong?Ф
УA man who knows the plant could get into the building without being seen. I
could do it myself,Ф said Armstrong.
УNobody could stop you or Bracken or Wyatt,Ф agreed Morley. He turned to Wyatt.
УIТd like to take a look at your safe.Ф
Wyatt stiffened.
УI donТt see any reason for that. WhatТs in that safe is my business,
Lieutenant.Ф
УAny objection to letting me see the blueprints in it?Ф
WyattТs eyes opened wide.
УHow did you know there were blueprints?Ф
УI guessed. You said there were valuable papers, and blueprints of new planes
seem pretty valuable to me.Ф
УWell, if you insistЧbut I canТt see what good itТll do you.Ф
УYou let me worry about that,Ф Morley told him. УI know who the saboteur is,
Wyatt, and the blueprints in your safe will furnish the proof.Ф
Wyatt was suddenly pink with excitement.
УYou mean you know who got to those finished planes? You havenТt had time to
investigate them, Lieutenant. And I thought you said earlier this morning that
you hadnТt found anything.Ф
УIТve found enough by now. And the guilty man handed me a couple of good hints
on a platter.Ф His eyes swept the three men coldly. УLast night a gunman tried
to kill me.Ф
Wyatt looked astonished.
УWhat happened?Ф
УYouТll find it in this morningТs papers when you get time to read them. I got
him first. Unfortunately, my aim was too good, and he died before he could tell
me who hired him.Ф
УWhy did anybody want you out of the way?Ф Armstrong demanded. УWe had a dozen
