SENSE OF NONSENSE? by Newton Joseph

No matter the topic, it does not take long to recognize if someone is speaking irrationally. Anything to do with religion comes under the category of irrational thought, at least for those of us who were fortunate enough to escape childhood religious indoctrination. There is no greater proof of the power of conditioning (ask Pavlov) than to hear intelligent and educated men and women talk the irrational, mystical beliefs of the supernatural. One would understand that people in ancient times would talk in the language of the supernatural. They had good reason to believe; they were ignorant people (pre-scientific). Religious dogma does not play well in this century ( it should not).

One would expect people of today would be above the primitive thinking of long ago. To listen to rabbis, priests and ministers on television, one has to ask if they know they are living in the 21st century. To bring concepts of 2000 years ago into this century, one has to be habituated since childhood and re-enforced by so many others who are fluent in god talk. These people lack critical thinking skills when it comes to religion. Why? They do not want to leave the comfort of their religious beliefs, even when their beliefs are irrational.
