Doc Savage found the man called Bear Cub. The fellow greeted them shortly, without much courtesy.
His eyes were small and dark under his remarkable eyebrows. He was not a likeable personality, seemed
aware of it and apparently did not care.

тАЬLook, you can't pump me about the little guy,тАЭ he said scowling, тАЬbecause I never got anything out of
him. Sure I hung around him. That was because I figured he was a little nut of some kind.тАЭ

тАЬWhy are you not letting me see it?тАЭ Bear Cub countered. тАЬAfraid I might find out something?тАЭ

Doc Savage did not care for the man's tone. Renny Renwick had knotted his big fists several times,
wanting to take a swing at Bear Cub.

Bear Cub glared at them all, then snorted violently. тАЬI'm not bluffed by you big shots,тАЭ he said. тАЬAnd
don't try pushing me around, or I'll cut loose and rain a bit on you.тАЭ

Renny told him, тАЬNow you're talking the kind of language I half expected out of you. Don't get too near
the end of the plank, my eyebrow-heavy friend. You might get dunked.тАЭ

Bear Cub said something under his breathтАФsomething not complimentaryтАФand strode away. He was
not afraid of them. That was obvious. And he had an extraordinary dislike for them.

Renny looked that up later and found out it meant something simple, like тАЬquarrelsome fellow.тАЭ Which
was a big-worded way of putting a fact.
