тАЬWow!тАЭ
Park said, and took his pencil out of his mouth so he wouldn't swallow it. тАЬExcuse me,тАЭ he said. тАЬWhat
can I do for you?тАЭ
тАЬMr. Parker O'Donnel?тАЭ she asked.

тАЬYep,тАЭ said Park. She had blue eyes and blond hair and the kind of skin you didn't think really existed.

The young woman handed him a card.
тАЬMiss Martha Colby, Attorney at Law,тАЭ said the young woman, repeating what the card said.

She was also, according to what the card said, from Boise, Idaho.

тАЬI am,тАЭ said Park sincerely, тАЬpleased to meet you. In fact, I know I am going to consider it one of the
high points in my life, like the time I had the mumps and the time a bronc stepped on me.тАЭ

such a pretty girl.

тАЬYou are Mr. Parker O'Donnel?тАЭ she asked.

тАЬYes, I agreed to that once already,тАЭ Park said.

тАЬAnd this,тАЭ said Attorney Martha Colby, тАЬis your birthday.тАЭ

тАЬIt is.тАЭ

тАЬYour twenty-fifth birthday?тАЭ

тАЬRight again.тАЭ

тАЬAnd your father was named, or called, Sandy O'Donnel?тАЭ asked the girl lawyer.

тАЬThat information is correct.тАЭ

The young woman sighed. She examined Park with what seemed to be some considerable doubt and
perhaps some apprehension.

тАЬI am your new legal guardian,тАЭ she said.

тАЬTHAT'S fine,тАЭ Park said fatuously. Then he blinked. тАЬWait a minute, gorgeous. What do you mean,
guardian?тАЭ

тАЬGuardian,тАЭ said the girl. тАЬThe legal term guardian. You know what it means as well as I do.тАЭ

Park felt distinctly foolish.

тАЬYou mean,тАЭ he said, тАЬyou look after me?тАЭ
