A Nice Greek Boy 1isa first became aware of Konstantin Fotopoulos
when one of her aunts slyly informed her one day in May of 1985 that
there was a handsome young man available and she wanted Lisa to meet
him. Lisa Paspalakis was twenty-five and she had become quite an
attractive young woman, a lithe, brown-eyed, brown-haired American with
a Greek heritage that leaned into her life from every direction.

"You'll like him," Aunt Poupa said. "His name is Kosta.

He's a nice Greek boy."

"Yeah, yeah, we'll see," Lisa said. She had heard this before.

"Everybody with pants on looks like a nice Greek boy to you."

This was followed by a series of phone calls from Poupa.

"So? When do you want to meet this boy?"

By this time Lisa had met too many nice Greek boys.

She was tired. After graduating cum laude from the University of South
Florida in Tampa in 1982, she had worked for a year in Tampa at one of
the big eight accounting firms, and now, at her father's request, she
was living in Daytona Beach, helping to run the family business,
Joyland Amusement Center, while her brother, Dina, was at college.

Lisa wasn't looking for a man. All she really needed to relax after a
long day at Joyland was a pack of cigarettes and a good novel.

And on weekends she just wanted to hang out with her friends, most of
whom lived in Tampa, on Florida's west coast. Tampa, a three-hour
drive across the state, was Lisa's sanctuary. There she had privacy.

Her Tnampa friends were not plugged into that network of creek
relatives who seemed to know every time she coughed or went to the
bathroom.

On one of her Saturdays in Tampa, Lisa's father, Steno, called.

"Lisa, come home now," he said. He sounded excited.

Something must be wrong, Lisa thought. "Dad, who is "That boy.

Kosta. He's going to be at your Aunt Poupa's today."
