УCan't we lust talk?Ф

УAbout what?Ф He rocked his chair back. When she did not answer, he prompted, УWell?Ф

УI just want to -Ф

УWhat?Ф he interrupted, his jaw set, УWe've talked this through a hundred times. There's not a whole lot more to say.Ф

УI want to see Y.Ф

УI told you I'm buried in this case.Ф

УSo, when it's over ...Ф

УSara.Ф

УJeffrey,Ф she countered. УIf you don't want to see me, just say it.

Don't use a case as an excuse. We've both been buried deeper than this before and still managed to spend time with each other. As I recall, it's what makes this crapФ-she indicated the mounds of paperwork,Ф bearable.Ф

He dropped his chair with a thud, УI don't see the point.Ф

She gave humor another stab. УWell, the sex, for one.Ф

УI can get that anywhere.Ф

Sara raised an eyebrow, but suppressed the obvious comment. The fact that Jeffrey could and sometimes did get sex anywhere was the reason she had divorced him in the first place.

He picked up his pen to resume writing, but Sara snatched it from his hand. She tried to keep the desperation out of her voice as she asked, УWhy do we have to get married again for this to work?Ф

He looked off to the side, clearly annoyed.

She reminded him, УWe were married before and it practically ruined us.Ф

УYeah,Ф he said. УI remember.Ф

She played her trump card. УYou could rent out your house to someone from the college.Ф

He paused a second before asking, УWhy would I do that?Ф

УSo you could move in with me.Ф

УAnd live in sin?Ф

She laughed. УSince when did you become religious?Ф

УSince your father put the fear of God into me,Ф he shot back, his tone completely devoid of humor. УI want a wife, Sara, not a fuck buddy.Ф

She felt the cut of his words. Уis that what you think I amФ
