Freda Warrington was born in Leicestershire and grew up in the beautiful Charnwood Forest area, which inspired a feeling for atmosphere, nature and fantasy. After training at Loughborough College of Art and Design, she worked in medical art, graphic design and illustration, while writing in her spare time. Her first novel, A Blackbird in Silver, was published in 1986 and she is the bestselling author of the vampire series A Taste of Blood Wine, A Dance in Blood Velvet and The Dark Blood of Poppies. She has also written Dark Cathedral, a spellbinding tale of black magic and witchcraft, and its sequel Pagan Moon. Freda Warrington now lives in Derbyshire and, although writing takes up most of her time, she also enjoys music, reading, photography, art, tapestry, psychology, mythology, conventions and travel.
