9 CREDIT/JOB
Although dismayed by the usual predominance of debits over credits, the four
large deposits certainly cheered me up. The fourth itself was a mystery,
though. I hadn't used my account that day, so wasn't aware that I'd received
such a large sum from my employers. Why? Was this their way of telling me my
services were no longer required? Or was it a warning? Be happy with the bonus,
little man, and forget about everything, fast.
Having some experience with bank lists, I recognised the JOB abbreviation as
belonging to the Jordan Ordinary Bank, one of the smaller 'multi-nationals' in
the city. Taking the account number of the creditor and running it through an
old account-list I'd appropriated for a client some years ago took little more
than a second or two. When the search had finished, the screen displayed a
single record:

11758215-0999-441-564581123: Kamen & Subsidiaries, Inc. Clarkesville, SSU

Kamen & Subsidiaries. I'd never heard of them--but, seeing they were based on
Clarkesville, the main bubble on Triton, that didn't seem unlikely. Why they
were paying good money to tag some guy in C20, millions of miles away,
remained a mystery.
