drinking zibib while we wait. ThatтАЩs what the people on the ship did. And in spite of Lissa, I want to
stay with Neil.

I look at the expanse of sand back toward the east. There is no sign of Cairo from here, or of the
terminal, and far off there is a flicker of movement, like something running.

I shake my head. тАЬI want to see King TutтАЩs tomb.тАЭ I go over to Neil. тАЬI think we should go with Zoe,тАЭ I
say, and put my hand on his arm. тАЬAfter all, sheтАЩs our guide.тАЭ

Neil looks helplessly at Lissa and then back at me. тАЬI donтАЩt knowтАжтАЭ

тАЬThe three of you can go back to the hotel,тАЭ I say to Lissa, gesturing to include the other men, тАЬand Zoe
and Neil and I can meet you there after weтАЩve been to the tomb.тАЬ

Neil moves away from Lissa. тАЬWhy canтАЩt you and Zoe just go?тАЭ he whispers at me.

тАЬI think we should keep together,тАЭ I say. тАЬIt would be so easy to get separated.тАЭ

тАЬHow come youтАЩre so stuck on going with Zoe anyway?тАЭ Neil says. тАЬI thought you said you hated being
led around by the nose all the time.тАЭ

I want to say, Because she has the book, but Lissa has come over and is watching us, her eyes bright
behind her sunglasses. тАЬIтАЩve always wanted to see the inside of a tomb,тАЭ I say.

тАЬKing Tut?тАЭ Lissa says. тАЬIs that the one with the treasure, the necklaces and the gold coffin and stuff?тАЭ
She puts her hand on NeilтАЩs arm. тАЬIтАЩve always wanted to see that.тАЭ

тАЬOkay,тАЭ Neil says, relieved. тАЬI guess weтАЩll go with you, Zoe.тАЭ

Zoe looks expectantly at her husband.

тАЬNot me,тАЭ he says. тАЬWeтАЩll meet you in the bar.тАЭ

тАЬWeтАЩll order drinks for you,тАЭ LissaтАЩs husband says. He waves good-bye, and they set off as if they know
where they are going, even though Zoe hasnтАЩt told them the name of the hotel.

тАЬ тАШThe Valley of the Kings is located in the hills west of Luxor,тАЩ тАЭ Zoe says, and starts off across the
sand the way she did at the airport. We follow her.

I wait until Lissa gets a shoeful of sand and she and Neil fall behind while she empties it.
