тАЬWait,тАЭ I say, and run across the sand to catch up with them. тАЬWhy donтАЩt you wait and weтАЩll all go back
together? It wonтАЩt take us very long to see the tomb. You heard Zoe, thereтАЩs nothing inside.тАЭ

They both look at me.

тАЬI think we should stay together,тАЭ I finish lamely.

Lissa looks up alertly, and I realize she thinks I am talking about divorce, that I have finally said what
she has been waiting for.

тАЬI think we should all keep together,тАЭ I say hastily. тАЬThis is Egypt. There are all sorts of dangers,
crocodiles and snakes andтАж it wonтАЩt take us very long to see the tomb. You heard Zoe, thereтАЩs nothing
inside.тАЭ

тАЬWeтАЩd better not,тАЭ Neil says, looking at me. тАЬLissaтАЩs ankle is starting to swell. IтАЩd better get some ice on
it.тАЭ

I look down at her ankle. Where the bruise was there are two little puncture marks, close together, like a
snake bite, and around them the ankle is starting to swell.

тАЬI donтАЩt think LissaтАЩs up to the Hall of Judgment,тАЭ he says, still looking at me.

тАЬYou could wait at the top of the steps,тАЭ I say. тАЬYou wouldnтАЩt have to go in.тАЬ

Lissa takes hold of his arm, as if anxious to go, but he hesitates. тАЬThose people on the ship,тАЭ he says to
me. тАЬWhat happened to them?тАЭ

тАЬI was just trying to frighten you,тАЭ I say. тАЬIтАЩm sure thereтАЩs a logical explanation. ItтАЩs too bad Hercule
Poirot isnтАЩt hereтАФheтАЩd be able to explain everything. The Pyramids were probably closed for some
Muslim holiday Zoe didnтАЩt know about, and thatтАЩs why we didnтАЩt have to go through customs either,
because it was a holiday.тАЭ

Death on the Nile

тАЬWhat happened to the people on the ship?тАЭ Neil says again.

тАЬThey got judged,тАЭ I say, тАЬbut it wasnтАЩt nearly as bad as theyтАЩd thought. They were all afraid of what
was going to happen, even the clergyman, who hadnтАЩt committed any sins, but the judge turned out to be
somebody he knew. A bishop. He wore a white suit, and he was very kind, and most of them came out
fine.тАЭ

тАЬMost of them,тАЭ Neil says.

тАЬLetтАЩs go,тАЭ Lissa says, pulling on his arm.
