Dahlaine loves bears, VeltanтАЩs fond of sheep, and youтАЩre attached to the
seals who nest along your coasts.тАЩ
Aracia shrugged. тАШThey gave us something to play with while we were
waiting for the man-creatures to grow up,тАЩ she said. She peered back into
the dim cave. тАШIt seems that Dahlaine hasnтАЩt found Veltan yet,тАЩ she noted.
тАШI donтАЩt see them anywhere. How far back does this cave go?тАЩ
тАШMiles and miles, I think,тАЩ Zelana replied. тАШLetтАЩs wait. IтАЩm sure theyтАЩll
be along soon. Has your Dreamer told you any interesting stories yet?тАЩ
тАШNo,тАЩ Aracia replied. тАШI donтАЩt think sheтАЩs quite ready. From what
youтАЩve told me, IтАЩd say that your Dreamer might be the first. The story of
the world sort of sets things up for the other Dreamers. Did she really see
it right from the beginning in her dream?тАЩ
тАШIt came very close to what really happened,тАЩ Zelana replied. тАШWhatтАЩs
your childтАЩs name?тАЩ
тАШLillabeth,тАЩ Aracia replied fondly, тАШand sheтАЩs the most beautiful
creature in all the world.тАЩ
тАШThey seem to do that to us, donтАЩt they?тАЩ Zelana said.
тАШDo what?тАЩ
тАШDistort our perceptions, dear sister,тАЩ Zelana replied. тАШIтАЩd imagine that
Dahlaine and Veltan feel the same way about their Dreamers. I know that
I have exactly the same feelings about Eleria. ItтАЩs probably very simple.
We love them because they are oursтАЩ
тАШCould you be a bit more specific about this dream your Eleria had?тАЩ
Aracia asked.
тАШLetтАЩs wait for Dahlaine and Veltan. There were some complex things
happening when Eleria began to dream, and I think DahlaineтАЩs the best
qualified to interpret them.тАЩ
тАШThatтАЩs assuming that he ever gets here,тАЩ Aracia added.

It was probably late afternoon outside when a pair of shattering
thunderclaps shook the air for miles around. тАШThat is so childish,тАЩ Aracia
noted. тАШDo they really have to do that?тАЩ
тАШTheyтАЩre still little boys, dear,тАЩ Zelana replied, тАШand showing off is part
of their nature. Riding a lightning-bolt is a sure way to get everybodyтАЩs
immediate attention.тАЩ
тАШBut they look so silly after they do that - glowing and with their hair
standing on end the way it does.тАЩ
тАШI think lightning does that,тАЩ Zelana said. тАШIt is a very fast way to travel,
but I think IтАЩll stick to riding the wind. ItтАЩs almost as fast, and it doesnтАЩt
make nearly so much noise.тАЩ
A few moments later their brothers emerged from the twisting
passageway that led down from the surface.
тАШWhat kept you?тАЩ Zelana asked mildly.
тАШI had a little trouble locating our baby brother,тАЩ Dahlaine replied
sourly.
тАШHe can be such a grouch sometimes,тАЩ the tall, fair-haired Veltan noted.
тАШI wouldnтАЩt be nearly so bad-tempered if youтАЩd stop trying to hide from
me,тАЩ Dahlaine said. тАШDid you tell our sister about EleriaтАЩs dream, Zelana?тАЩ
тАШNot in any great detail, no,тАЩ Zelana replied. тАШA number of her servants
