тАЬThe boy died. Can you identify him, help us contact his family?тАЭ

тАЬWe are his family,тАЭ Lionel said.

тАЬHis mom and dad are dead.тАЭ

тАЬJust one of you, please.тАЭ

тАЬCan you handle it?тАЭ Judd said.

Lionel waited in the hallway outside the morgue while they retrieved the body. His stomach was in knots.
He thought about Ryan and how they had fought. The little guy wasnтАЩt so little anymore. He was
annoying at times, got on LionelтАЩs nerves. But Lionel wished he had another chance.

Lionel was led into a cold, sterile room. A sheet covered the body on a metal table.

тАЬAre you okay?тАЭ the man said.

тАЬWait,тАЭ Lionel said, then took a deep breath. He nodded and closed his eyes as the man lifted the sheet.

Lionel opened his eyes, and a wave of emotion swept over him. The boy on the table had been badly
burned, but this wasnтАЩt his friend.

тАЬHe could have been taken to some other hospital,тАЭ Lionel told the others.

тАЬDonтАЩt they sometimes fly тАШem by helicopter downtown?тАЭ

тАЬItтАЩs worth a shot,тАЭ Judd said.

тАЬJohn can check that out while we follow leads here.тАЭ

тАЬWhat leads?тАЭ Vicki said.
тАЬWeтАЩre assuming he was hurt,тАЭ Judd said.

тАЬLetтАЩs assume he didnтАЩt get hurt.тАЭ

тАЬMaybe somebody in the neighborhood helped him,тАЭ Vicki said.

тАЬHe would have called us,тАЭ Lionel said.

Ryan heard a cell phone ring in the other room. He crawled to the door and strained to hear.

тАЬYeah, boss,тАЭ the driver said, тАЬsheтАЩs fine. No, the timing was perfect. We took off with her, and then all
those bombs went off. No sir, she didnтАЩt see either of us.тАЭ

Ryan heard the short man whispering to the driver, тАЬTell him about the other kid.тАЭ

тАЬNo, we didnтАЩt see any family members or workers.тАЭ The man paused.

тАЬNo, we did just like you said. We havenтАЩt made contact with anybody. тАЬ
