"David Robbins - Blade 13 - Vengeance Strike" - читать интересную книгу автора (Robbins David L) "They won't shoot, will they?" the cabbie inquired nervously.
"No," Blade assured him. "The Force has had a few run-ins recently with certain gangs from L. A. Those men are simply being cautious." A soldier sporting the two stripes of a corporal held his right arm aloft. The driver braked and brought the vehicle alongside the closed gate. Apparently unable to see inside because of the bright afternoon sunlight glinting off the windows, the corporal called out, "No civilians are permitted past this point. Who are you and what do you want?" Blade opened his door and slid out. Both guards gaped, then snapped to attention. "Sony, sir," the corporal blurted out. "We didn't know it was you." "You've nothing to be sorry for," Blade replied. "You're performing your job properly and I'll be sure to mention your efficiency to your superiors." "Yes, sir," the corporal said, grinning, and hastened to open the gate. The Warrior leaned down to address the cabbie. "Will you wait here a minute? I need to get the money for the fare." "You don't have it?" the driver answered, sounding stunned. "Nope." Blade moved toward the gate and heard Grizzly's door open. Even if he hadn't, the shocked expressions on both soldiers would have told him the hybrid had emerged. "Grizzly? Is that you?" the corporal declared. "Do I know you?" the hybrid asked, joining the Warrior at the entrance. "You spoke to me once or twice back when you were on the first Force," the corporal said. Grizzly studied the man for a moment. "Oh, yeah. Metz is the name, right?" "Yes, sir," the corporal said, and added quickly, "We heard that you were dead." "From who?" "No one in particular. It's a rumor that's been going around." The other trooper cleared his throat and looked at the warrior. "Excuse me for asking, sir, but didn't Captain Havoc go with you to the Outlands?" |
