"Like you have room to talk," Jaguarundi remarked.

"Watch your mouth, Fur Face," Lobo warned. "I don't take kindly to
being insulted by misfits."

Before anyone else could so much as blink, Grizzly moved, reaching the
feisty Clansman in a single stride and gripping the front of Lobo's shirt in
his brawny left hand. Hardly straining, Grizzly hoisted the black man into
the air and held his right hand six inches from Lobo's eyes.

"Don't!" Blade exclaimed.

Grizzly made a rumbling noise deep in his chest and locked his fingers
rigid and straight. Instantly, from under flaps of skin and fur located
behind his fingernails and thumbnails, snapped out five-inch-long claws
every bit as wicked as those on a real grizzly bear.

The Warrior took a half step, about to interfere, but changed his mind.
Lobo knew better than to insult a hybridтАФany hybrid. Most genetically
engineered mutations had been grossly mistreated and reviled by humans
during their lifetimes and were quite touchy about matters related to their
creation. Jag had tolerated more verbal abuse from Lobo than Grizzly ever
would, and it would be best of the Clansman became aware of the fact

His eyes the size of half-dollars when the claws popped out, Lobo swiftly
recovered his composure and said indignantly, "Hey, let go of the threads,
man. Clothes don't grow on trees, you know." He tried to pry the

imbedded in concrete.

"Don't ever call either of us a misfit again," Grizzly admonished, his
eyes blazing.

"Chill out, man," Lobo said. "I didn't mean to get your tootsies in an
uproar. It just sort of slipped out."

"Then since I'm going to be around here for a while, I suggest you learn
to keep your big mouth shut," Grizzly said sternly.

"You are?"

The hybrid abruptly let go, tumbling the Clansman to the turf. "Yeah.
Blade asked me to join the Force again and I've accepted." He relaxed the
fingers on his right hand and the claws immediately retracted.

Jaguarundi clapped the bear-man on the back. "You did? That's terrific
