Andre Codrescu is a writer to be read, but don't try to imitate his unique,
poetic voice. Like Cormac McCarthy, he writes in an individual style that no
one else can muster.

In THE BLOOD COUNTESS he interweaves two characters and two centuries: the
historical and fascinating Countess Elizabeth Bathory, the late 16 century
Hungarian renaissance noblewoman said to have murdered and tortured over 600
virgin girls in order to bath in their blood and her fictional modern-day
descendent Drake Bathory-Kereshtur.

Erotic, thought-provoking and suspenseful, THE BLOOD COUNTESS is not
considered genre fiction -- but there is no denying it's horror and among the
best. -- reviewed by Paula Guran (DarkEcho)

Single issue: $5 + $1 postage
6X9, Stock b/w cover, 44 pages

NYX OBSCURA has an air of ethereal gothic sincerity to it that is entrancing.
The fiction is short but interesting, the reviews shorter and informative. Of
particular note is music coverage generally, an article on music group Faith
& Disease and the ongoing compilation of the CODEX OBSCURA. The latter is an
attempt to provide the nexus of a network of . . . well. . .people, things,
