Daley--a popular Del Rey author since the publication of his first novel,
DOOMFARERS OF CORAMONDE, on the inaugural Del Rey list in 1977--died of
cardiac arrest. He was 48 years old. Mr. Daley is survived by his wife
Lucia St. Clair Robson, the bestselling novelist.

Shortly before his death, Mr. Daley finished the radioplay for "Return of
the Jedi," after which he returned to work on a monumental science fiction
novel called GAMMALAW, for which he had already delivered more than
fifteen hundred pages to his longtime editor, Owen Lock.

In addition to his two extremely well-received _Coramonde_ fantasy novels
and the three-volume science-fiction _Adventures of Alacrity Fitzhugh and
Hobart Floyt_, Brian wrote the first _New York Times_ bestselling Star
Wars spin-off novels: the three-volume _Adventures of Han Solo_. With
James Luceno, Mr. Daley was one half of the "Jack McKinney" who wrote the
more than twenty novels of the popular Robotech and Sentinels series. He
also wrote a number of lesser-known movie tie-in novels, on each of which
he labored as diligently as he did on works entirely of his own creation.
He was a professional to the tips of his fingers. His friends and readers
will miss him.

The Del Rey Web site (http://www.randomhouse.com/delrey/) was recently
awarded four stars (the highest rating) by Magellan, the online Internet
resource catalog. On the other hand, a whole bunch of the sf/f sites have
four stars, so it's not that singular an honor. On the third hand (the
gripping hand?), we're about to launch a redesign of our site that will
